As part of the activities of the CMO, training sessions (2 x 3 days) were organised for Marketing standards for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables. One training series was for the public sector (governmental stakeholders), and another was aimed at the private sector and the farmers.
Marketing standards for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables are international standards applied in the European Union countries and even worldwide based on UNECE standards. Also, the Minimum Quality Requirements (UNECE) and the General Marketing Standard (EU) for the domestic market were introduced.
The international standards were explained in great detail about possible defects through presentations to clarify the grading into quality classes and labelling. The international experts also gave hands-on training based on samples in the classroom.
The training course covered the following standards: tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, cabbages, table grapes, apples, pears, kiwis, plums, berries, walnuts, and strawberries.
The course concluded with a test of the different samples.
